What I have learned for past few years of talking to TVD fans.

Most fans who like Damon doesn’t like Elena.
Most fans who like Elena doesn’t like Damon.
And, most fans who like Stefan, like Elena.
(Most not All)

Just saying that Damon and Elena brings out the worst of each other. That why I like Stelena, they are so cute together and they make you feel good. It like eating chocolate ice cream when you are feeling sad! I have more reason but this will do for now.
